As our readers and contributors may have noticed. Our coverage of cut content and old content as well as port content has significantly increased over the past few years. More work has to be done and is in fact in progress when it comes to articles in general, though the following topic goes over that.
Recently we have been able to reacquire several builds of each game in the Counter-Strike franchise and started dissecting each of them for information. These include: -The Betas of the original Counter-Strike (Half-Life mod) -The pre-alpha (2003 Leak) build of Counter-Strike: Source -The 2004 Steam Beta of Counter-Strike: Source -The 2011 Counter-Strike: Global Offensive Beta -The 2012 Counter-Strike: Global Offensive Beta -The North American version of Counter-Strike Xbox.
Several problems have been however slowing our progress down when it came to content coverage: -The leaked CSS Build features several broken models that cannot be opened with HL2 Beta and that require modelling expertise. -The 2011 and 2012 CS:GO models are somewhat incompatible with the current model viewer, specifically viewmodels, modelling expertise is needed. -The Xbox version of Counter-Strike uses a version of the GoldSrc engine that was specifically made it for it and the Xbox which leads to several other issues. Models and textures are hard to extract and are in formats that require developer software. We couldn't come across the Counter-Strike Xbox Modding Tools developed by fans as most threads containing have been removed. Some tools are spread across the internet though the whole set cannot be currently found. Some uploaders have been emailed, but none answered so far. Obtaining former Ritual employee's help that worked on the project through contact or petitions would help us even better.
Some other things we haven't acquired at all: -Rogue Entertainment's Condition Zero build. We have virtually no information about it not to say no proof of its existence. -Gearbox's Condition Zero build. Footage of it has been made and Randy Pitchford did talk about it with footage of it being shown and that includes a LOT of cut content. Contacting Pitchford and begging him or making a petition to release the build to the public is our only hope of acquiring it, if it is still shelved somewhere in Gearbox's Headquarters or archives that is. Acquiring Valve's support on this side would make it a even better. -Counter-Strike: Global Offensive PAX 2011 Alpha builds (console and PC versions). That might reveal a lot of information or just tell us how slightly different the game was. A certain significant build nonethelss. Valve is quite reluctant on releasing unfinished, old, beta content, especially after the 2003 Half-Life 2 Leak. Contacting Gabe Newell through mail or petition could help us out.
