Migration to MediaWiki?

Given that a good majority of the Fandom wikis, such as Half-Life, Doom and Quake have already migrated to the MediaWiki in order to distance themselves from the Fandom, are there any sort of plans for the Counter-Strike community to do the same?

It's going to be an arduous task to move the articles between them, but at this point it doesn't seem like that the community, especially the staff wants to maintain the Wiki proper.

I've seen almost nonsensical edits being made to certain pages, as well as a few claims made for the trivia without any proper citation whatsoever. This is more and more evident with the older pages, with nobody bothering to correct them whatsoever. I've seen screenshots being replaced by extremely poor renditions (I saw the Leet's Gallery, and boy do those 1.6 and Condition Zero models look hideously screened.)

I'm sure that it might be a bit feasible for the Wiki to transfer itself over to the proper MediaWiki with it's far, far less cluttered and littered look as it is for this one.

Hi,

I thought I’d start this off by saying that I completely understand where you’re coming from - seeing some parts of this wiki are in dire need of updating, duplicated topics, half finished pages, etc.

Counter-Strike is a game which is rich with history, but unfortunately that doesn’t exactly play to its strengths when trying to maintain the wiki. Plenty of images and pages here have upload dates as early as 2009/10 (sites like YouTube were still in their infancy - this is 14 years ago!)

The issue is, not many people now have the extremely niche knowledge and the desire to update these pages that refer to material on a game that’s 20 years old. Me personally, my knowledge only really extends as far back as 2011 and anything further back than that I hardly know at all.

There were a good number of people here who had the knowledge and were regularly updating and maintaining pages until 2016(ish) until the fandom stuff really took over. From what I understand, people slowed down due to real life stuff and then the Fandom migration acted as a catalyst for them to stop altogether.

Where I’m going with this is that they these absolute gems of editors with that expert knowledge we need are now too rare to find and that’s the real sucker punch to a wiki like this as it left us with about 3 active admins.

What’s next? Well, I’m going to update the wiki with a bunch of CS2 content when it comes out. I’ll be more active again once it drops. When that is done, I’ll take a temperature reading on the situation and evaluate the options to resolve the state of the wiki.

Well it doesn't really say about what I suggested, @Ale280 . If anything's to be observed by the Doom and Combine Overwiki, these dying fandoms can easily be ressurrected if you're to simply perform a migration over to the MediaWiki and earn complete control. There's quite a few people within the community who're knowledgeable, plus we've got a hundreds of interviews floating around for citation as well.

It's a good call to simply just start anew and leave this one behind.

I suppose you’ve missed my point - the lack of admins makes this task super high effort for only one or two people. Additionally, I’m also not sure with the costs involved in maintaining a site and then likely being in the exact same spot we are in now.

I think you overestimate the number of people who are interested in updating pages of content from decades ago. As of now, I can’t feasibly go through the effort of migrating this wiki and paying to maintain it and then being left in the same spot as this wiki is in now.
