The Butterfly Knife is a cosmetic knife available to players in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive & Counter-Strike 2, and is a rare special (★) item.
The Butterfly Knife was introduced on July 1st, 2014 in the Operation Breakout update, the first rare special (★) item to be exclusive to it's container, the Operation Breakout Weapon Case, available in Arms Deal finishes. On March 15th, 2017 the Butterfly Knife would become available in Chroma finishes in the Spectrum Case. It would return in the Spectrum 2 Case on September 14th, 2017, & it would finally become available in Gamma finishes on September 21st, 2021 as part of Operation Riptide in the Operation Riptide Case.
Overview
The Butterfly Knife is cosmetic & shares the same performance as the default knife. It is a rare special (★) item that can be found in an Operation Breakout Weapon Case, Spectrum Case, Spectrum 2 Case, or Operation Riptide Case.

- The Butterfly Knife appears to be based off the Terry Guinn Gargoyle V2.
- The Butterfly Knife in Lore finish is bugged, with a float range of 0-1 rather than 0-0.85 like other Lore knives.
- The Butterfly Knife has two different draw animations, played at random. One shows the player simply flicking open the knife. The other shows the player spinning it open with an open hand before gripping on it.
- The Butterfly Knife has three different inspect animations, played at random. One shows the player flicking the knife forwards & backwards before holding the safe handle with his thumb & index fingers & balancing the bite handle on his other fingers. The other shows the player spinning it around his thumb multiple times before holding it in the same position. The last shows the player flicking the knife forwards before spinning it around his thumb once, then holding it in the same position.
- The Butterfly Knife is also known as the Basilong or the Batangas Knife, which originated in the Philippines. They were often used as razors for shaving before more conventional razors came to the Philippines.
