Justin DeJong was the designer of a few Counter-Strike maps. He unfortunately passed away on December 7, 2000.

Justin DeJong started level designing in 1996 for Quake which is also how he got introduced to Worldcraft (which would later become Valve Hammer Editor). His first published map was Canyon Hunt, which was a contest winning entry for a mapping contest held by PC Gamer (US) for Team Fortress Classic.[1]

Perhaps impressed by the Canyon Hunt map, Jess Cliffe approached DeJong in May 1999 about the possibility of mapping for the upcoming Counter-Strike mod and gave Justin access to a pre-beta copy of the mod.[2] As such, Justin's work was present in the very first beta of Counter-Strike in the form of Siege. He would also contribute another map, Docks, for the second major release of the mod, Beta 2.0.

On December 7, 2000, he unfortunately took his own life.[3] Despite this, his legacy as a level designer would live on as David Johnston and Christopher Auty took it upon them to include memorials in their maps Dust2 and Aztec. Justin DeJong's brother, Joshua DeJong, also made sure that neither Docks nor Siege would be forgotten by coordinating updates for both of the maps for Counter-Strike 1.1.[4]
