Michael Visser, or simply Mike, is a level designer for Counter-Strike. He is the creator of Survivor.
He received his nickname from a former colleague since he was the only guy at the company doing 3D work.[1]
Biography[]
Mike Visser discovered Counter-Strike when one of his friends installed the game at work. After playing just one LAN game, he was hooked.[1]
He discovered Worldcraft around December 2000 and liked how easy it was to work with and thus began working on his first map for Counter-Strike.[2][3] Mike would finish and release a few maps before he decided to try his hands at designing a map that would go official. The result of this endeavor was Survivor, the rights for which were bought by Valve Software and it was made an official map in Counter-Strike 1.3.[1]
Despite only producing a single official map, Visser was a very active level designer and would go on to produce several custom maps for Counter-Strike. He also designed some maps for other Half-Life mods including Day of Defeat and The Specialists.[4]
Professionally, Mike has been working with 3D modeling and animation since 1998 as a freelancer and at various companies.[5]
