Michael Porter, or more commonly simply Mike, is a level designer for Counter-Strike: Condition Zero. He is the creator of Pipe Dream.

Biography[]

Porter originally started his career by working at a sign company. One day while he was on a break, he downloaded Doom and once he started playing it and designing levels for it he was hooked and soon decided that he wanted to get into the industry. Thus he started calling various game companies and eventually landed his first game development job at Terminal Reality where he was initially working on Hellbender.[1]

Mike had always wanted to create a first-person shooter game but as Terminal Reality wasn't into creating such games, he decided that it was time to move on and joined Ritual Entertainment in 2000 as they were a recognized creator of first-person shooters.[1][2] Porter contributed to Counter-Strike: Condition Zero and Counter-Strike (Xbox) when development on the titles was overtaken by Ritual Entertainment in August 2002.[2] However, in June 2003 Ritual Entertainment encountered financial trouble and some employees including Mike Porter were let go,[3][4] thus he would not see the projects through to the end.

Following his employment at Ritual Entertainment, Mike has worked at various game development studios including Sierra Entertainment and Microsoft Game Studios.[2] After leaving Microsoft, Porter joined Media Design School in New Zealand, heading a Bachelor's programme for game development.[5] In 2016, he co-founded the company SkillTree, which provides classes on visual effects for the games or film industry.[6]
