“Close-range indoor combat spills out into a sprawling outdoor combat arena.”
―Map Description[1]
Motel is a custom hostage rescue map featured in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive's Operation Payback and Operation Phoenix.
On the October 13, 2016 Update, the map was removed from the game files, making Motel inaccessible via console.
Overview[]
The map is based around a diner, motel, and a parking lot that links the two. The motel itself has two floors with numerous small rooms, some of them being hostage spawns. It also includes a small pool.
Development[]
Counter-Strike: Global Offensive[]
It was created by Soctom and uploaded to the Maps Workshop on January 23, 2013. The signs, found in various parts of the play area, were created by Cocyx. The map has undergone extensive changes: adding (and later manipulating) the 3D skybox, moving objects around, adding stairs, creating new soundscapes, swapping hostage spawns, and much more.
Trivia[]
- In the middle of the map, a dead Phoenix Connexion member is lying behind a white van with a functioning Glock lying on the ground.[2]
- Originally during Operation Payback, the weapon could be picked up by players. The weapon was bugged and had infinite ammo with a lack of burst fire, but this was fixed when the map returned for Operation Phoenix.[3]
- The police car decals are from the New Orleans Police Department 6th District suggesting the Motel is located in Central City or Uptown. This also could be just because the model and decals are reused from Left 4 Dead 2.
