Counter-Strike Wiki

Premier is a game mode in Counter-Strike 2 and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. It was introduced in Global Offensive as part of Operation Broken Fang in the December 3, 2020 update, originally named Broken Fang Premier and intended to be exclusive to the operation, but kept due to its popularity. Prior to the March 29, 2021 update, the game mode was only available to those that had bought the Broken Fang Pass, but following said update it was made available to all players.

Overview[]

In Premier, teams who play are loaded into a veto system where they ban and pick maps similar to professional level matches. At the start, each team votes to either ban two maps or pick if they start on the Counter-Terrorist or Terrorist side. Console damage reports are disabled so mid round damage reports are not shown, damage is only shown on round end. Standard Competitive rules apply as penalties will be distributed to those who abandon the match or get autokicked for excessive teamkilling or team damage. The freeze time period is increased to 20 seconds. In Counter-Strike 2 the maximum rounds per half is 12 whereas in Global Offensive it is 15 rounds per half. In Counter-Strike 2, the player has to win 10 premier matches before their CS rating is shown. If the player already has a CS rating, then after the warmup period ends, the CS rating gained or loss on a win or lose is shown during the team introduction and the half time team switch.

In Counter-Strike 2, if the player has an active CS rating then the amount of CS rating gained or lost on a win or lose is shown in the team introduction and half time phase. If both teams tie their score after 24 rounds, only one overtime period is played out which is a max rounds 3 per half and team switch after 3 rounds have finished. Both teams are given $10,000 at the start of their overtime half and no money, equipment or weapons are carried over from regulation time. The teams stay on the same side at the beginning of overtime. If both teams are still tied 15-15 after overtime has finished then the game ends in a tie. The CS rating for players can increase for a reduced amount , decrease or stay the same on a tie. There is no overtime in Global Offensive and the game will end in a tie at a 15-15 scoreline.

In Counter-Strike 2 each team has three 30 second timeouts to use after a team vote. During the match, if a player is disconnected for at least 3 rounds then the team is given a $1000 short handed bonus at the round start except for the round 13 pistol round. Competitive cooldown rules still apply in Premier.

During the match, if a player disconnects after the start of the round then at the start of the next round the server automatically starts a 2 minute technical timeout to give that player time to reconnect. If the player disconnects during the freeze time then the technical timeout is triggered during that round. If that player reconnects then the technical timeout ends automatically and thus the freeze time countdown restarts. This 2 minute technical timeout will trigger only once per team during the match.

Premier inactivity timer[]

In Counter-Strike 2, the player's CS Rating is active for a limited time before it's expired from inactivity if they stop playing Premier. If the player has their CS rating hidden from inactivity then their position on the leaderboard is lost and they must win 1 Premier match to show their CS rating again. When the player regains their CS rating after being inactive on premier then the rating figure can decrease or increase compared to what it was before their CS rating was inactivity hidden.

To see how long the CS rating is active for, next to the "season progress" in the Premier menu, place the mouse cursor over the "i" icon which will show a popup message saying how long the CS rating is active for. The time it takes for the CS rating to be hidden depends on the CS rating value, with higher ratings having a shorter duration until it's reduced to it's lowest length at 8 days and 11 hours at 23,300 CS rating and higher. The premier mode inacivity timer starts at the time the most recent premier match began.

Seasons[]

In Counter-Strike 2, Premier has seasons. Players can play Premier matches to get a CS rating after 10 wins and appear on the premier season leaderboard. The leaderboard can be divded per region such as Europe, North America etc or a global worldwide leaderboard. When a new season begins, every player's CS rating is reset and has to win 10 premier matches to show their CS rating in the new season.

In season 1 only, every player who has a CS rating will recieve a commemorative season medal which shows detailed season statistics. On season 2 and after the end of each season henceforth, a player who has an active CS rating and a minimum of 25 premier wins at the time of season end wil recieve a commemorative season medal. When a season ends the game mode is locked temporarily and no premier matches can be played until the next season begins.

Premier Veto

The veto system works on the votes of the team rather than a captain system. Everyone in the team can vote for certain options, and it is decided based on where the majority of the votes were cast.

Phase 1 Ban first or later 12
Phase 2 Ban 2 maps 25
Phase 3 Ban 3 maps 25
Phase 4 Ban 1 map 25
Phase 5 Pick side 12
Phase 6 Starting match 11

Trivia[]

  • Premier loads a map called 'lobby_mapveto' to do the veto process.
  • The Counter-Terrorist cinematic room is the same as the starting room in Autumn Harvest & Cultivating Trouble.
  • The warmup arenas appear to be a reference to the film Dr. Strangelove as the room looks extremely similar to a scene in the movie.
